Are Dubai suppliers safer than China suppliers?
Not by much, and not in the way most people mean. Dubai sellers average 2.61 on our 1 to 5 buyer feedback score. China sellers average 2.39. That is a small gap. China even has a slightly bigger share at the top. So no, Dubai is not a shortcut to a safe order.
Most buyers ask this hoping for a simple rule. Buy from Dubai, relax. It does not work like that, and we would rather say so than sell you a comfortable answer.
There is one place the gap is real, and we get to it further down. It is not about the country. It is about how easy the seller is to reach when something goes wrong.

So why does Dubai feel safer to so many buyers?
Because you can get on a plane. Dubai is a short flight from Lagos, Nairobi or Accra, and plenty of traders go and buy in person. That feeling is real and it is worth something. But it does not transfer to the seller you found online and will never meet.
Distance is not the thing that protects you. Being able to check somebody is. A seller you can visit in Deira is easy to check. A Deira page on your phone is exactly as hard to check as a Guangzhou one.
Look at the bottom of the table again. Just under half of Dubai sellers sit at 1 or 2, which means we found very little buyer feedback to read. For China it is closer to six in ten. Better, but nowhere near safe.
The one real gap: can you actually reach them?
This is where Dubai wins. When we added new sellers in our August round, 71% of the Dubai ones published a working phone number. For the Chinese sellers it was 59%. Those are small groups, 35 and 37 sellers, so treat it as a hint rather than a rule.
It matters more than it sounds. Dubai traders sell on WhatsApp, so the number is the business. If they hide it, they are not really trading. A number you can call before you pay, and again if the goods are late, is worth more than any score we could give you.
A page with no phone number, no address and no website is asking you to trust a stranger with nothing to hold on to. That is true in Guangzhou, in Deira and in Lagos.
What Dubai sellers actually sell
Not what most people expect. Perfume gets all the attention, but auto parts and clothing are bigger in our list. If you buy hair, wigs or lashes, Dubai is barely a corridor at all. Go where the trade actually is, rather than where the reputation is.
Dubai is a re-export hub. Goods land there from all over and go out again to Africa. So a Dubai seller is often a middleman, not a maker. That is fine, as long as you know it and price it in.
Ask one question and it sorts most of this out. Do you make this, or do you buy it in? A straight answer tells you a lot. A dodge tells you more.

What to do with this before you pay anyone
Stop picking by country and start picking by what you can check. The country tells you almost nothing on its own. Five minutes of checking tells you a great deal, and all of it is free. Do this whether the seller is in Dubai, Guangzhou or down the road from you.
- Call the number before you send anything. Not a message. A call. If nobody picks up before they have your money, think about what happens after.
- Read the comments on their last three posts, not the pinned praise at the top.
- Ask if they make the goods or buy them in. Both are fine. A vague answer is not.
- Send a small first order. Small enough that you would shrug it off.
- Keep every receipt and every chat. If the order goes wrong, the record is what you have.
- Be careful with anyone who pushes you to pay everything today. Real sellers are still there tomorrow.
How we worked this out
We read what buyers said in public. The scores come from all 708 sellers we listed on 21 August 2026, judged on how much real buyer feedback we can find on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook. The phone number figures come from one smaller round of new listings, and we have said so above.
A score is what we could see, and nothing more. It is not a promise about anyone. A seller can score well and still be wrong for your order.
Most guides comparing Dubai and China are written by people selling you sourcing. We do not sell goods and we do not sell sourcing, so we have no reason to make either country look good.
